Coffee Time: Reviewing September & Sharing October Intentions

Hello friends! I wanted to write a casual and cozy post going over my September and October intentions. Inspired by an interactive journaling video by Lavendaire, I thought it would be a fun exercise for us to journal together. You don’t have to be a good writer to do this either! It’s all about sharing our thoughts and plans. By the end of this post, you can share your answers to the following questions in the comments or keep them in your own journal. Okay, grab a cup of coffee or drink of choice, and let’s get started!

One Thing I’m Proud of:

Establishing a cozy home. I’m still in the process of gaining furniture and art, but my vision is finally coming alive!

How can I improve for next month?

Have a better balance between client work and giving my business love. While it can be easy to get lost in the sea of tasks and projects, I have to remember to take care of my business too. For example, publish new blog posts, update branding, and revamp my services.

How’s journaling so far? I’m enjoying a cup of coffee while I write my answers!

What’s the biggest lesson I learned in the past three months?

One of the main factors I learned was to not get too caught up in client criticism. Constructive feedback is important for improving my craft, but taking criticisms too personally can be toxic and mentally harmful. I’ve learned how to separate the feedback and apply it to elevate a writing piece. My main focus now is creating content that I’m proud of.

Fill in the blank: October will be:

Well-rounded.

What are your top 3 goals for October?

  • Make more income.
  • Create a cute office space that breeds creativity
  • Have a fun Halloween craft party

What are your mini goals?

  • Keep cleaning & maintaining my home.
  • Take breaks from the screen!

Weekly breakdown of goals & mini goals?

This week, I want to continue my 10 am-4 pm work timeline. I would also like to ease into my mornings with coffee, morning conversations, journaling, and meditation. (This is a general breakdown of my week. Feel free to be more specific with your journal responses.)

Reflecting on September & October

Overall, I would say my September went pretty well. As I’ve started my freelance business, creating a work schedule has been the hardest part. It’s probably the freedom of creating whenever I feel like it. At first, I felt a desperate need to break out of the 9 to 5 work pattern, but in doing so, I became lost, stressed, and struggled to organize my time. So instead, I’ve adjusted my hours to a timeline that fits me, roughly 10 am to 4 pm. This allows me to work when I’m most creatively active and gives me some downtown to study, make dinners with my partner, and decompress from the day.

Moving into October, I’m hoping to continue my 10 to 4 work schedule and make time to do fun activities outside of work and school. I’m thinking of becoming more active- maybe go on bike rides, trail walks, and learn how to rollerblade. I’ve also had a desire to pick up another craft like painting. I have a lot of October intentions and most likely, will only fulfill a couple on the list. But that’s okay!

I figure if the sky is the limit, why not explore new adventures.

How about you? Put your answers to these questions in the comment section below! What did your September look like? What are your October intentions, goals, and plans?

Good luck on your journey,

Harumi

    1. Although it didn’t seem productive at the time, when I look back, I can appreciate what I accomplished. That’s what I love about journaling- it helps me recognize my efforts. I hope that you also achieve your goals for this coming month!

    1. Hi Ayesha. Congrats on starting your freelancing journey! I can definitely relate to the challenge of balancing time between work, social, and school life. Try blocking out specific hours of time for various activities. For example, one hour of freelance work and then fifteen minutes of cleaning. It helps me maximize my time!
